Peter Haas

Peter Haas, History teacher and current Departmental Chair, is a teacher and historian who grew up in the greater Philadelphia area. A graduate of Wheaton College with a Bachelors in History and a minor in Theatre and holding a Masters in Education from UPenn, he has been an educator for well over a decade. Prior to teaching at Devon, Peter was employed in London and New York in the investment sector and in Philadelphia-area educational grantmaking. His other teaching experiences include Western Reserve Academy in Ohio and Simon Gratz Mastery Charter in North Philadelphia, with additional time spent as a guest lecturer at Hunter College and Sarah Lawrence College in NY.

Peter enters his 7th year of teaching at Devon with a focus primarily on Freshman ancient history and courses that examine politics and civics on both a local and national level. He enjoys helping boys grow and develop into young men of maturity and conscience, as citizens that hold values aligned both with their individual natures but also reflect an awareness of the complexity of the world around them. When not teaching, Peter is involved in several local arts-based nonprofit organizations, actively trains for Philly-area runs, and is often found attempting to perfect his smoked BBQ ribs.
