Jane Highley

Jane has been teaching social studies in middle and high school for the past 15 years. As a double-major in English and History, Jane earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Davis. Migrating to the East Coast, she earned her M.S. Ed from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. Jane also holds a PA Certification (Level II) for both English and Social Studies for grades 7-12. In 2017, Jane was selected as the Pennsylvania Fellow for the prestigious James Madison Memorial Fellowship, which offers individuals $24,000 to become outstanding teachers of the American Constitution at the secondary level. Through this fellowship, Jane earned a second Master’s in American History from La Salle University in 2020. Additionally, Jane was also selected to be a Teacher Fellow with C-SPAN in 2021 and 2022. As a C-SPAN Fellow, she developed new lessons and activities for AP Comparative Government and Politics by incorporating a variety of C-SPAN programs. This is Jane’s 5th year at Devon and is eager to learn alongside her students. For the 2022-23 school year, Jane is teaching AP Comparative Government & Politics, AP Human Geography, and AP U.S. Government & Politics. She is also the faculty advisor for two clubs: Discourse & Debate Club (formerly the Diversity Club) and the Galactic Guild (a Star Wars fan club). Jane is a running enthusiast and has completed one marathon (Marine Corps), 17 half-marathons, 11 Broad Street 10-milers, and many other races. But her favorite race is the Frostbite 5-miler (hosted by Ambler Area Running Club), for which she proudly runs as the club mascot — a penguin.
