Birgit Splitt joins the Devon Preparatory School as a German teacher. A
native German, she studied English and Political Science at the
University of Heidelberg. As part of her state-issued certification for
secondary school teaching in Germany, she holds the equivalent of a
master’s degree in foreign language instruction and Political Science.
As a DAAD scholar, Birgit taught in Aberdeen, Scotland, and later
worked as a German and English teacher at a middle and high school in
Reykjavik, Iceland. Since moving to the United States in 2006, she has
continued her passion for language education. Birgit helped launch
and expand the local PhillyKinder nonprofit program, which serves the
German-speaking community in the greater Philadelphia area, where
she acts as both teacher and co-director. Over the years, she has
taught students from kindergarten through high school and remains
committed to fostering cross-cultural understanding through
language. Outside the classroom, Birgit enjoys cooking, reading,
spending time outdoors, and traveling with her family.
