Substitute Teacher – November 2018

On-call

Devon Preparatory School a Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grade six to twelve, is seeking an on-call substitute teacher to join our faculty and to start immediately.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position of Substitute Teacher will report directly to the Business Office.  The substitute teacher will instruct students and facilitate their learning in the absence of the regular teacher and performs other related duties as assigned. Some days the substitute will be scheduled in advance and other days it will be on-call.

 

BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
  • Supervises students
  • Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
  • Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
  • Maintains a professional appearance as an example to students.
  • Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by building principal.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
  • Communicates effectively with parents when needed.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Line Cook – December 2018

Full -Time
Devon Preparatory School a Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grade six to twelve, is seeking a Line Cook to join our Food Services Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position of Line Cook will report directly to the Food Service Manager.  The Line Cook is responsible for providing the highest quality of service to students, parents, and staff at all times.

 

BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The Line Cook will:

  • Prepare daily menu items according to Food Service Manager’s specifications.
  • Complete setup, service and closing duties in all areas of operation.
  • Perform food preparation, display food items as trained and replenish as needed.
  • Perform cashiering duties, as required.
  • Provide guidance and training to other employees performing related work, if needed.
  • Follow wrap, label, date procedures for all food products and return to designated areas. Practice FIFO procedure on all products.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and complete daily and weekly cleaning as assigned by Food Services Manager.
  • Ensure that food sanitation practices are followed. Carry and distribute food supplies and equipment and assist others in the preparation of food.
  • Notify managers of maintenance issues.
  • Maintain professional and appropriate relations with all students and parents at all times.
  • Maintain knowledge of school property and staff as necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Report all accidents to the kitchen manager immediately.
  • Ensure security and confidentiality of all student and staff information.
  • Attend work on time as scheduled and adhere to the attendance policy.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, and climb.
  • Must be able to push and pull heavy loads.

Candidates should be able to:

  • Regularly lift, carry or otherwise move up to 50 lbs.
  • Follow proper moving and lifting procedures.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
The Kitchen Worker reports directly to the Food Services Manager but may be directed by other administration during the day if emergencies arise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Must have previous kitchen experience.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Must be a team player who is flexible, amiable and cooperative.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all Devon Prep staff are considered to be role models for Devon Prep students.

Preferred:

  • High School Diploma/GED

Facilities Manager – December 2018

Devon Preparatory School, a private, Catholic boy’s school, grades 6-12, located in suburban Philadelphia, is looking for an experienced, full-time facilities professional to manage multiple functions in its buildings and grounds. The Facilities Manager is responsible for the physical operation and appearance of the school’s campus and providing a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, parents, and employees. The successful candidate will be able to perform routine and timely maintenance tasks and manage outside contractors when specialized repair and maintenance is necessary.

 

The Facilities Manager is a hands-on professional who not only supervises a small staff but also performs duties to ensure that its equipment and systems are well-maintained.  This is a high-visibility, customer-oriented position that interacts extensively with faculty, staff, parents, and other members of the community. As such, the individual selected to fill this role must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

 

Overview of Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Planning and assigning daily maintenance and custodial activities
  • Performing and coordinating preventive maintenance on building systems
  • Assisting with planning, budgeting, and coordinating of long-term projects/renovations
  • Contribute to decisions regarding premises management and develop
  • Identifying mechanical, structural, electrical, or other conditions in need of repair or upgrade
  • Representing the school at meetings with contractors, vendors, and agencies
  • Maintaining HVAC, building alarm, and fire sprinkler systems and elevators
  • Monitor cleaning staff and maintaining premises, ensuring all standards are met
  • Coordinating and overseeing outside contractors/vendors
  • Monitoring safety
  • Removing snow from building sidewalks, treating walkways
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations
  • Ordering supplies and equipment and reviewing and approving vendor invoices
  • Maintaining employee work schedules and coordinating related payroll
  • Developing and maintaining positive and productive working relationships
  • Encouraging, mentoring and motivating employees
  • Additional duties as assigned

 

College or trade school degree or equivalent

Knowledge and skills in the following:

  • carpentry
  • plumbing
  • electric
  • HVAC
  • boiler maintenance
  • fire alarm and sprinkler systems

 

Experience in a school setting is highly preferred (hospital, nursing home, museum, hotel also valuable)
Should have technical expertise with mechanical systems and equipment
Knowledge of building code requirements
Experience managing building renovations and system upgrades
Computer skills
Knowledge of payroll regulations
