School Bus Driver – After School Athletics/Activities – Part-Time

10 month Part-time- 5-6 days/week (must be flexible for Saturday morning and evenings)

Monday- Friday: Must be available after 1:00 PM.

 

Devon Preparatory School a Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grade six to twelve, is seeking a season bus driver to join our Transportation Department to start immediately. This is a seasonal position. Applicants should be available for both morning and afternoon during the week.  This position may also include being responsible for taking sports teams to their away matches, waiting until the contests conclude, then returning them back to schools campus. Pick up times can vary depending on the location for that event. Van/Bus Driver will be responsible for transporting children from school to home or from home to school. The driver will pick up children along the scheduled route and ensures they remain in their seats until they reach their destination.  Must have prior experience driving a school bus.  The position of Van/Bus Driver will report directly to the Director of Transportation.

 

Duties include any or all of the following list of essential duties and responsibilities:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Transport children to and from school.
  • Pick up children along scheduled routes at the same time every day.
  • Before stopping, operate stop sign and flashing lights on bus to alert traffic.
  • Pick up students in the morning and return them home or to the designated bus stop in the afternoon.
  • Check the bus/van tires, lights, and oil and do other basic maintenance.
  • Pick up and drop off kids at designated locations.
  • Follow a planned route on a time schedule.
  • Help disabled children get on and off the bus.
  • Ensure children stay in their seat at all times.
  • Discipline unruly children.
  • Follow traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations
  • Follow safety procedures to make sure they and all kids are safe
  • Keep passengers informed of possible delays.
  • Listen to alerts about bad weather.
  • Carefully navigate roads and watch for ice, debris, or slippery spots.
  • Report accidents immediately.
  • Call police during an emergency.
  • Work at school in other occupations, such as janitors, cafeteria workers, or mechanics, between morning and afternoon trips.
  • Drive students to field trips, sporting events, and other activities.
  • Enforce rules regarding conduct.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS

Devon Prep’s Transportation staff has frequent encounters with visitors, students, faculty and staff throughout the campus and off campus. It is important to maintain a helpful, positive demeanor while interacting with these individuals. Bus Driver reports directly to the Director of Transportation but may be directed by other Administration during the day if emergencies arise.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION

Bus Driver is supervised directly by the Director of Transportation and takes direction when needed from the Administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have the following qualifications

  • Preferably 2-5 years driving experience.
  • PA CDL class B License
  • Passenger (P) Endorsement
  • School Bus (S) Endorsement
  • Air Brake Endorsement

Applicants should have the following background clearances (School is able to assist in obtaining if needed).

  • Child Abuse
  • FBI Fingerprinting
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Protecting God’s Children (Philadelphia Archdiocese requirement) Part I & II
  • ACT 126 Part I and II

Salary: $25.00+ (starting) /hour

  • Effectively demonstrate skills for students in the class, and help them to grow their abilities and artistic voice through different mediums.
  • Managing behavior and attentiveness in class via successful classroom management

Assistant Position Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the Arts Department chair to complete weekly to-do lists for interdepartmental needs.
  • Ability to take direction and perform tasks in a timely and organized manner.
  • Manage student artwork: helping to mount and label student works, as well as create a neat display in the hallways.
  • Utilize social media to help promote the program: Post photographs of student artwork, work in class and upcoming event information.
  • Graphic Design: Create posters and programs for various Arts events. Utilizing Adobe programs efficiently to complete graphic projects by the deadline.
