Theater Program

Devon Prep presents two major productions during the school year, a fall drama and a spring musical, produced by the Devon Prep Music Society.  At the time of each production, all roles and parts are opened by audition to the entire student body as well as guest actresses from area schools. In addition, students can also participate in other areas of dramatics including: production, lighting, scene construction and management.

2017 Spring Musical: Bye Bye Birdie

Directed by Mr. Paul Recupero

The year is 1958, and the much-adored rock-and-roll idol — Conrad Birdie — has been drafted into the US army. His songwriter and agent, Albert, and Albert’s secretary and some-time girlfirend, Rosie, hatch a plan for a farewell performance to take place on The Ed Sullivan Show, which they hope will help sell Birdie’s new song “One Last Kiss,” and ultimately save Almaelou records from going under. To cap off the performance, Birdie will actually give ‘one last kiss’ to Kim MacAfee, an avid member of the Conrad Birdie fan club from Sweet Apple, Ohio.

Performance Dates – March 2, 3, 4, 2017

Directed by Paul Recupero

Performance Dates – November 4, 5, 6, 2016.

Devon Prep’s Theater program presented The Dining Room by AR Gurney as it’s fall drama. The cast of 16 actors included young women from area schools and the following Devon Prep students: seniors James Coffey, Connor Galarneu, Ben Rufo, and AJ Tiglao, Juniors Ben Lubker and Tommy Brower, sophomore Seamus Slattery and freshmen Alex Leicht.

The Dining Room is a series of overlapping vignettes all set in a dining room of a typical well to do household. Each of the scenes, which range from comic to serious, explores the dynamic relationships of family life. The actors change roles, personalities and ages as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to grandfathers, and from teenage girls to housemaids. Directed by Mr. Paul Recupero, The Dining Room was funny, heartwarming, thoughtful and very entertaining.
