2013 Spring Musical: The Scarlet Pimpernel, March 14-16
Music by Frank Wildhorn
Lyrics by Nan Knighton
Based on the novel by Baroness Orczy
“A lavish musical, blazing with adventure and bursting with resplendent music.” Michael Sommers, Star Ledger
If you enjoyed Devon Prep’s previous two blockbusters Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera, you must see this year’s spring production, The Scarlet Pimpernel.
Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror, The Scarlet Pimpernel is the swashbuckling tale of the adventures of a band of English noblemen led by Sir Percy Blakeney—the secret “Scarlet Pimpernel”—to save French aristocrats from the guillotine. From the spine-chilling “Madame Guillotine,” sung by the villain Chauvelin with the Paris street mob, to the rousing “Into the Fire,” sung by Sir Percy and his band of Bounders, this show is filled with unforgettable songs. Intrigue and betrayal, daring rescues and mistaken identities, romance and bravery, spectacular costumes and side-splitting antics—all set to a dazzling musical score!
