Campus Undergoes Summer Improvements

While most of the Devon Prep family enjoyed the warm, relaxing summer months, the campus was busy undergoing some exciting changes. The front entrance underwent a transformation with beautiful stone added to the wall and new cementwork on the ground.

The first floor hallways were freshly painted with the Devon blue and new energy efficient lighting was installed. The weight room has been refurbished with new equipment slated to arrive shortly. A new sound system has been installed in the gym, large screen flat TVs were installed in several classrooms, and upgrades have been made to the computer program and the security system. Finally, Devon Prep’s favorite chant “Roll Tide,” has been placed on the fence in the athletic field for all the world to see.

New Faculty Members

In addition, Devon Prep also welcomed two new faculty members, a new German teacher and a new science teacher.

Schauer

Ms. Julia Schauer will teach AP Chemistry, Honors Chemistry and Physical Science. She holds a BS and M.Ed. in Chemistry from West Chester University.  Prior to Devon Prep Schauer taught Chemistry in the Downingtown Area School District. She also has 16 years experience as a research scientist for such companies as Wyeth Ayerst Research and Centocor, Inc.

Lukens

Mr. Steven R. Lukens will teach German and history. He holds a BA in history from The Citadel and a MA in German from Temple University. Prior to Devon Prep Lukens taught in the Owen J. Roberts School District in Pottstown, and the Carrabec School District in Maine. He has also worked as a German instructor for Berlitz Languages, Inc. and Cartus, Inc. He served as an Intelligence and Applications Officer in the US Air Force and was stationed in Germany for several years.

Devon Prep’s faculty now numbers 33, with more than 60% holding advanced degrees.  Several of these teachers have taught at Devon Prep for more than 35 years and others for more than 15.  Seven teachers are Devon Prep graduates.
