Devon Prep Students Donate School Supplies to
North Philadelphia Community Center

With rising costs of everything from food and gas to school supplies “Back to School” shopping can be difficult for some families. However, for more than 200 families in North Philadelphia, getting the necessary school supplies was made a little easier with help from Devon Prep’s Christian Action Program (CAP).
Throughout the summer CAP collected nearly 3300 items from Devon Prep families for St. Elizabeth’s Community Center on North 23rd Street in Philadelphia. Among the items were over 1400 pencils, nearly 400 notebooks and nearly 100 packs of crayons. Also included were pens, erasers, scissors, rulers, glue sticks, index cards, folders, highlighters and just about anything else needed to start school.
With tears in her eyes Mrs. Helen Brown of St. Elizabeth’s Community Center gratefully received the supplies and hugged each of the Devon Prep students who delivered them. “These boys can never really know how much all their hard work and kindness means to us,” she said. The donations were distributed to families with school age children during a community block party.
