Student Life
On, Thursday, September 11, 2008, the seventh anniversary of the terrorist attack on America, Devon Prep held a Remembrance Service to honor the 343 New York City firefighters who gave their lives to save others.
Devon Prep Chaplain Rev. Richard Wyzykiewicz, Sch.P. opened the service with a prayer and then introduced Fr. Michael Duffy, O.F.M. who spoke to the students about the tragedy of September 11, 2001. On that day his good friend FDNY Chaplain Rev. Mychal Judge died trying to help others. Fr. Duffy talked about his dear friend, the loss that he feels and the kind of life Fr. Judge led.
Throughout the service all 343 names of the firefighters were read by Devon Prep students and faculty members. In addition the Berwyn Fire Company conducted the final alarm ceremony to honor their fallen comrades. Two Devon Prep students, Justin McNabb and Ryan Litchert, who serve as junior firefighters in area fire companies, took part in planning this event.
