2008 Catapult Competition

More than 130 Devon Prep Latin students competed in the Annual Catapult Competition on May 1. The students set up 38 catapults on the Athletic Field. Each catapult was set up to hurl a golf ball across the field.

The students competed in teams according to their Latin class. A class could have as many as seven teams or as few as three. The Latin class whose teams' catapults had the greatest average distance was declared the winner.

The base of each catapult could be no bigger than 2 ft. X 1 ft., but the arm could be as big as the builders felt necessary to get the desired distance. This year catapult #26, Cantor Aureus (Golden Singer), made by Freshmen Colin Feeney, Paul Burns and Kevin Lefchak hurled a golf ball 144 feet.

Congratulations to Mrs. Domin’s Latin III Class, 10ABCD who won this year’s competition with an average distance of 81 feet, 6 inches.
