Class of '63 Alumni Speak to Seniors
As part of the ongoing Senior Seminar Series sponsored by the Alumni Association, Class of ’63 Alumni Lloyd Roach and Vince Melograna spoke to the senior class today about their life experiences, education and careers. Headmaster Fr. Jim Shea and Alumni Association President Barry Mulhern ’72 were on hand to welcome Lloyd and Vince back to Devon.
Lloyd told the seniors that he left Devon Prep after 3 years and that he subsequently joined the Navy. After spending 4 years in the Navy and earning a GED, he entered Emerson College to study communications. He quickly realized that he had a passion for radio and pursued a career in that field. Despite having to start over on a number of occasions throughout his career, he felt he made the right choices and experienced a good deal of success. He told the audience that one of the things he learned at Devon was that, “even when you fail, you have to get back in there and keep going.”
Vince told the seniors that while attending the University of Dayton in Ohio he began working in the broadcasting business, but soon learned that he had a passion for sales. Through the years, he showed an exceptional ability for sales, becoming a member of the “president’s club” in the various companies he worked and was often selected to train newer members of the sales force. He told the boys, “The education you get here at Devon Prep is the start of your success.”
Both men now work together at BrandywineRadio.com, Lloyd as owner and Vince as Director of Sales.
