Middle School Curriculum

Devon Prep’s Middle School is one of the strongest in the area. Our curriculum for grades 6, 7 and 8 focuses on Devon Prep’s statement of philosophy and on teaching the skills and content necessary for success in the Upper School.   Among Devon Prep’s Middle School strengths are its science, math and Latin curriculums.

Beginning in the 2014-15 academic year Devon Prep will be phasing in a New Middle School Science Curriculum which will bring Life Science to the Sixth Grade, Physical Science with a concentration on physics to the Seventh Grade, and a second year of Physical Science, with a concentration on chemistry, to the Eighth Grade. Read more about the New Middle School Science Curriculum.

Devon Prep’s Middle School math curriculum begins with pre-algebra in the sixth grade and geometry and algebra 2 in the seventh and eighth grade. The strength of this program guarantees that the eighth grade student is prepared to successfully handle algebra 2 in ninth grade.

The Middle School has classrooms located in Calasanctius Hall and St. Anthony Hall, and also uses the Gymnasium, Music Room, and Chapel.  Care is taken to develop a Middle School Community, but there are also times when Upper School and Middle School students share learning experiences.  The Middle School core curriculum establishes the foundation for the continuum of study leading to graduation from the Devon Prep Upper School.
