Devon Prep Salutes the Class of 2008

The 49 members of Devon Preparatory School’s Class of 2008 have been awarded over 5.5 million dollars in college scholarships. They received more than 200 acceptances to 90 colleges & universities including: Cornell, Dartmouth, Johns Hopkins, NYU, Lehigh, Notre Dame, Fordham and the University of Pennsylvania.

Two members of the class will attend college in England, one will go to Alaska and another will study in Canada. One of the graduates has been accepted into Thomas Jefferson Medical School, another into the University of Miami Law School. One graduate has been accepted into Drexel University’s MBA Program and two others have been accepted into M.S. programs. 

Among the members of Devon Prep’s Class of 2008 are 23 AP Scholars (14 are AP Scholars with Distinction), one National Scholar, 11 National Merit Scholars (five are Finalists, three of whom are scholarship winners) and two National Hispanic Scholars.

In addition this senior class includes three Eagle Scouts and an EMT. As a group they have performed nearly 1700 hours of community service doing everything from collecting and distributing food to needy families to tutoring students in Chester.

Devon Prep’s Class of 2008 Valedictorian is Matthew S. Jaffe and Steven W. Fox is the Salutatorian.  During the Commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 7 several awards will be presented to the graduates honoring them for academic excellence, school spirit and community service.

Class of 1972 alumnus Mr. Kevin Magee, Executive Vice President for Fox News, will deliver this year’s commencement address. He is currently in charge of the Fox Business Network, the “Morning Show with Mike & Juliet” and Fox News Radio.

Class of 1969 alumnus Mr. William G. O’Neill will receive the Alumni Achievement Award during the commencement ceremony. O’Neill is an attorney specializing in humanitarian, human rights and refugee law and currently serves as a visiting professor of law and international relations at the Scuola Sant’Anna in Pisa, Italy.
