Two Devon Prep Seniors Named National AP Scholar

Students who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams are named National AP Scholars. At graduation, Patrick and JB will have completed 13 AP courses each.

Patrick was also named an AP Scholar with Distinction by the College Board and is a National Merit Scholarship Winner.  He will attend Harvard University in the Fall.

JB was named an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a National Merit Commended Student. He was also named a National Hispanic Scholar by the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program. He plans to attend MIT in the fall.

More than 280,000 students were named AP Scholar by the College Board in 2008 but only 11,686 achieved National AP Scholar ranking.

The AP Program offers several AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. Thirty Devon Prep seniors were named AP Scholars this year, 13 with Distinction.

Most of the nation’s colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement, or both based on successful performance on the AP exams. More than 1,400 institutions award a full year’s credit (sophomore standing) to students presenting a sufficient number of qualifying grades.
