Devon Prep Students Excel in National German Exam

Five Devon Prep students, Seniors Patrick Mannion, Walter Snook, Kevin Auriemma and Sophomores Clement Stormes and Francisco Suero, recently scored in the 85th percentile or better on the National Association of Teachers of German (NATG) National German Exam.

Stormes and Mannion scored above the 90th percentile earning the Schlaraffia Filadelfia Award for Stormes and the DonauSchule Award for Mannion.  Stormes is now eligible to apply for a four week summer study trip to Germany.

The five Devon Prep students, as well as more than 150 other local high school students, were recognized during the American Teachers of German (AATG) Philadelphia and Delaware Chapter 2009 Awards Ceremony held at the German Club, Cannstatter Volksfest Verein in Philadelphia.

Taken in January, the National German Exam is an annual language test for high school students given in two-parts. The first is the exam, and the second is a series of essays and interviews. The grand prize is a one-month trip to Germany, offering students the opportunity to attend a German school, live with a local family, and tour the country.

The National German Exam is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German. This year 26,000 high school students studying second, third and fourth level German language took the exam. The exam is administered each year for measurement, placement and diagnostic purposes.
